Miguel Antúnez Vega (C’2020) was awarded a full scholarship at Warwick University (England) for his academic excellence. He will begin his studies in September.

He was selected for his excellent IB score (40) and challenged to write an essay about his field of study and provide an account of his previous experience. He also had to detail what influenced him to want to study Film Studies, how he would like to apply his knowledge to the wider world, how a scholarship would help him contribute to the academic and social communities of the university and why he wants to study in England and at the University of Warwick.

“For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to dedicate my life to cinema and I think it is extremely important in the world we live in,” says with enthusiasm Miguel, who finds in Andrei Tarkovsky’s phrase “Relating a person to the whole world: that is the meaning of cinema”, a summary of what he feels the seventh art is: “storytelling from infinitely different perspectives that represents humanity in its purest form”.

Shortly before he is due to start his university life, Miguel points out that his time at St George’s College enabled and helped him to obtain his IB grade. But it also gave him other tools to make his way as a citizen of the world. “The school gave me one of the most important things: self-confidence,” he emphasises.

“I was always part of all the trips I was able to attend. It was on these coexistence trips where I gained the security of spending time with people from different cultures and at the same time being with my friends,” he recalls.

Miguel is very interested in the film business, mainly in distribution, but he says he doesn’t like to keep his mind closed. “I do not discard other opportunities that may arise in the future,” he explains.

Congratulations Miguel, we wish you all the best in your career!
